Notarized translation

Notarized translation in Yerevan — a translation on which a notary certifies the authenticity of the translator’s signature, giving the document legal force. Apostil.am translates and arranges notarization within 2–3 working days, visiting the notary on your behalf. We also advise on apostille questions.

Important to know:

  • A notarized translation cannot be done online. The notary binds the translation to the original document (or a notarized copy), so the original must reach our office — in person or by courier. A scan is enough only for the quote.
  • If you need a fast online option, choose a stamped translation: it is ordered from a scan and delivered both as a PDF and on paper.
  • We do not issue apostilles. An apostille is issued only by the state — the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia (for educational documents, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports). We advise where to apply and in what order, and we translate apostilled documents.

When is a notarized translation required?

  • At government bodies: migration service, civil registry, cadastre, tax authority, police
  • At courts and notary offices: powers of attorney, consents, inheritance and property cases
  • Abroad: residence permits, citizenship, marriage registration, diploma recognition (often together with an apostille)
  • At banks and in business: founding documents of foreign companies, contracts, reports

If the receiving organisation does not require notarization, a faster and cheaper option is a stamped translation. The difference between the two options is explained in detail in this article.

Which documents we have notarized

  • Passports, birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates
  • Diplomas, diploma supplements, school certificates, other certificates
  • Powers of attorney, consents, declarations
  • Contracts, articles of association, state register extracts
  • Certificates of no criminal record, residence, employment, income
  • Court decisions, judgments, writs of execution

How a notarized translation is done

  1. You send a scan of the document — for the quote only — and receive the price and deadline.
  2. You hand in the original or a notarized copy at the office (or order a courier). Notarization is impossible without the original, because the notary binds the translation to the document itself.
  3. A qualified translator translates it, and an editor checks names, dates and the text of stamps and annotations.
  4. The notary certifies the translator’s signature — you receive a finished, legally valid document.

Price and turnaround

The cost of a notarized translation = translation price + notarization fee per document. The translation price depends on the language: Russian from 3,000 AMD, English from 2,500 AMD, other European languages from 4,000 AMD per page. Standard turnaround is 2–3 working days, or 24 hours with the express option. Calculate the exact price in our online calculator by choosing the “Notarized” type.

Notarized translation and the apostille

If the document will be submitted in a country that is party to the Hague Convention (EU, USA, UK and others), an apostille is usually required in addition to the notarized translation. The apostille is issued not by the translation agency but by the Ministry of Justice of Armenia (for educational documents, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports). We advise on the procedure, help you take the steps in the right order and translate the apostilled document, including the text of the apostille. Read more: how to get an apostille in Armenia.

Frequently asked questions

What is a notarized translation?

A notarized translation is a translation made by a qualified translator on which a notary certifies the authenticity of the translator’s signature. The translation is then bound to the original or its notarized copy and acquires legal force.

How much does a notarized translation cost?

The notarization fee is added to the translation price for each document. Calculate the exact price in the online calculator by choosing the “Notarized” type.

Do I have to go to the notary myself?

No, we arrange the notarization. All you need to do is hand in the original document or a notarized copy at the office or order a courier.

Can I order a notarized translation online from a scan?

No. A notarized translation is made only from the original document or a notarized copy, which must reach our office. From a scan we can only calculate the price in advance. The fast online option is a stamped translation: it is ordered from a scan and delivered as a PDF or on paper.

Do you issue apostilles?

No, Apostil.am does not issue apostilles. In Armenia only the state issues them — the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, and for educational documents the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. We give free advice on which authority to contact and in what order to do the apostille and the translation, and we translate apostilled documents.

How long does it take?

Standard turnaround is 2–3 working days, including translation and notarization. In urgent cases we do it within 24 hours.

Is a notarized translation enough for use abroad?

It depends on the country. For Russia and several CIS countries it is usually enough, while countries party to the Hague Convention (EU, USA, UK) often also require an apostille. Some authorities (for example in the US, UK or Canada) have their own certification rules — check with the receiving institution, and we will suggest the right procedure for your case.
