Translating documents for residence status

Arranging residence status, whether in Armenia or abroad, involves a large number of documents, most of which must be submitted in translation and often with notarization. Organising the translation of your residence documents properly can speed up the whole process considerably.

When you need residence documents translated

Translation of residence-related documents usually becomes necessary in several situations: when obtaining a work-based residence permit, for family reunification, when extending a study-based residence permit, or during a citizenship application.

In each case the receiving authority sets its own requirements, so it is always worth checking the exact list of documents and the form of certification in advance.

Documents most often translated

  • passport and current residence card
  • documents confirming registration or place of residence
  • employment contract and a letter from the employer
  • proof of income and bank statements
  • marriage certificate and children’s birth certificates
  • insurance documents

Why notarization is usually required

For almost all residence-related documents — especially translations of passports, certificates and contracts — the receiving authorities require a notarized translation. It confirms that the translation was made by a qualified translator and fully matches the original. For a notarized translation the original must physically reach our office (in person or by courier); we go to the notary on your behalf. If notarization is not required, a stamped translation can be ordered entirely online.

If a document was issued in another country and is to be used in Armenia, or vice versa, an apostille may also be needed. In Armenia it is issued by the state — the Ministry of Justice or, for educational documents, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. We do not issue apostilles, but we advise on the order of steps free of charge and translate the apostille text. See also which documents need notarization.

The process step by step

  1. Collect the originals or good-quality copies of all the necessary documents.
  2. Check with the receiving authority which documents are required and whether an apostille is needed.
  3. Order the translation, stating the destination country and whether notarization is required.
  4. Receive the certified translation and check all details: names, dates, numbers.
  5. Submit the complete pack within the set deadline.

Prices and turnaround

Most residence documents are translated at the standard rate, from 2,500 AMD per standard page (1,800 characters). If time is short, an express service is available at +50%.

Because residence procedures often have fixed deadlines, we recommend ordering the translation as early as possible. You can calculate the exact cost of your documents with the free price calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to order each document separately, or can I place one order?

You can submit all documents in one order. This makes it easier for both you and us to organise the work and keep track of deadlines.

What if a document is in a language other than the official language of the receiving country?

Our network of translators covers many languages, so it is often possible to translate directly into the required language. In special cases we can suggest an intermediate solution, for example a translation into an internationally accepted language.

How long does the whole process take?

The translation itself usually takes 1–3 working days depending on the volume, but the whole procedure, including review by the receiving authority, may take longer. Accurate information on this can only be obtained from the relevant authority.

It is best to start translating your residence documents as early as possible. Use our price calculator to find out the cost and turnaround, or contact us for a personal consultation.
